Description In the realm of competitive International One Metre (IOM) sailing, Sailboat RC has distinguished itself through the continuous innovation and development of advanced sail-making technologies. Our journey in revolutionizing sail design began in 2011 with the creation of the first 3D monofilm sail-making mold, refined in 2012 for versatility across all IOM sail categories. This groundbreaking approach allowed for the highest precision, lighter mass of sails, performance boost and uniformity in production but it also presented challenges in trim adaptability, sparking a fervent period of research and refinement. Already in 2014 we started decreasing waiting time without compromising any quality and we continued doing so every year even with exponentially growing demand worldwide. By 2015, our commitment bore fruit with the introduction of “Mold 15,” a paradigm shift towards sails optimized for flatwater conditions, offering exceptional all-around performance and introduction of translucent sail materials. The subsequent unveiling of “Mold 16” in 2016, a deeper and more robust iteration, solidified our position at the pinnacle of sail-making with victories at both the World Championship in France (2017) and the European Championship in Croatia (2018). “Mold 19,” developed for its all-purpose (AP) capabilities, demonstrated its superiority at the World Championship in Brazil, Porto Alegre 2019, securing both gold and silver medal while showcasing the adaptability and prowess of our sails. Our relentless pursuit of excellence did not cease; in 2022, following the World Championship in Rogoznica, we embarked on an exhaustive year-long analysis of “Mold 21” and “Mold 22”. This meticulous evaluation led to the adoption of “Mold 22” for its exceptional performance in lighter winds, aptly named “Light shaping” while “Mold 19” remained our versatile choice for a wide array of conditions, known as “All-round“. Added to those two options, our “Mold 21” was identified as the premier option for strong winds and heavy seas, earning the designation “Heavy shaping” as the third option as well. Sailboat RC’s dedication to advancing sail-making is further exemplified by our recent innovation with the development of a new upgraded machine for enhanced 3D sail shaping recognized by the European Union and trademarked as monoSRC™ SAILS. This dedication to craftsmanship and innovation ensures that our sails, available in “All-around,” “Light shaping,” and “Heavy shaping” configurations, offer unparalleled performance tailored to the specific conditions faced by sailors. If you are wandering through the forest of options and looking for extra suggestions on what to select, here are some good breadcrumbs to follow: For VISS, Kantun S or “slimmer IOM sailboats” we recommend for most occasions the following IOM sail setup: No1 (Suit A) – Mainsail Mold 21 & Jib Mold 19 (flat water), or Jib Mold 21 both (more waves, chop), or Jib & Mainsail Mold 22 (if you sail in lakes with light to no wind), or Jib Mold 22 & Mainsail Mold 19 (if you sail in lakes with light wind that occasionally gets over say 7 knots) No2 (Suit B) – Mold 21 (in all conditions) No3 (Suit C) – Mold 22 (in all conditions, maybe only Jib 21 in flat water) (please note, if your suit is ordered for VISS, let us know in Customer note as we will do this per default then for your suits) For K2 or “higher wind range IOM sailboats”: No1 (Suit A) – Mold 21 for Mainsail & Jib Mold 19 (flat water, default) or Mold 21 both (more wind with waves, chop). Use Mold 22 for Jib & Mainsail (light forecast) No2 (Suit B) – Mold 21 for Jib & Mold 22 for Mainsail (in all conditions) No3 (Suit C) – Mold 22 (in all conditions) Here are extra suggestions on what to select for Suit A (No.1) powered by Sailboat RC regarding the different shaping we offer within our specialised process of sail manufacturing: Light shaping – Mold 22: Used on Continental South American Championship CHI, Rupanco Lake 2023., (1st place!) & Continental North American Championship USA, Hobe Sound 2023. (1st place!). Select for underpowered rig conditions (lighter winds conditions), optimum at 4 knots approx.. All-around (Default) -Mold 19: All-around (AP: all-purpose) is our default multi-awarded shaping used in World Championship BRA, Porto Alegre 2019. (all three suits, 1st & 2nd place!). Select for versatile conditions (for mixed purposes, not just strong or only lighter winds), optimum at 5.5 knots approx.. Heavy sharing – Mold 21: Heavy shaping used in World Championship FRA, Pierelatte 2017 and European Championship CRO, Rogoznica 2018. (all three suits, 1st place, previous versions, we upgraded it now!) and European Championship ESP, Torrevieja 2023 (all three suits, 1st place again). Select for overpowered rig conditions (stronger winds), optimum at 7 knots approx.. As you can see in this explanation/suggestions above, Mold 19 is not often mentioned because Mold 19 is positioned (technically) between 21 and 22 and it is used as the default option to cover “both worlds” which means it can be used well in both ranges of conditions (lighter and stronger), so if you are not sure what you want or need, go with the defaults we pre-selected already for you. 2025/2026 update: Introducing AeroWhite Sail Material – The New Standard in IOM Performance and Longevity We proudly introduce our new-generation sail material, AeroWhite, now the default option for all Sailboat RC sails. Designed and refined through extensive testing, AeroWhite sails offer a significant leap in durability and light performance upgrade too! Compared to our previous Translucent standard material, AeroWhite lasts up to 35% longer, thanks to its advanced structure of material that resists creasing and deformation better than ever before. Even when shipped in tubes during the longest possible transport or tested under “battle” conditions on heaviest IOM championships, AeroWhite maintains a smooth aerodynamic profile—ensuring consistent speed and precision on the water through many events. This enhanced resilience means sailors will replace sails far less frequently, achieving substantial long-term financial savings while enjoying a superior sailing experience. In other words, you gain more value per every dollar invested. Also, you save your precious time which is the most valuable asset we all have. You will not need to change sails so often which we all know is time consuming in IOM class. The former Translucent Standard material remains available for purchase by the meter, offering flexibility for custom projects and special builds when needed. This evolution of our sail molds/3D shaping, materials and focus on details exemplifies Sailboat RC’s commitment to advancing the frontier of RC sailing technology. By harnessing the power of 3D molding techniques and manufacturing from a single piece of materials, we ensure that each sail crafted in our workshop embodies the pinnacle of precision, performance and versatility (we offer one-piece sails, they are not cut and glued back from several pieces). Sailboat RC sails are not merely products; they are a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation in the IOM sailing class, setting new benchmarks for quality and performance in the industry. As we move forward, Sailboat RC remains committed to pioneering new sail shapes and materials, ensuring that our webshop offerings represent the perfect choice for diverse weather conditions. Our dedication to research and development in sail-making technology aims to provide sailors with an unmatched RC sailing experience, pushing the boundaries of possibilities within the IOM class.
